Oh No! My Phone is in the water!
Some of you might experience this especially those who brought their mobile devices along to the bathroom, sink or swimming pool. If you dropped your phone into the bathtub, you need to pick it up as soon as possible. This is the most important part because you can minimize water damage. The longer the time your phone spent in the water, the more damage it may cause to the phone.
Most of you would probably have the same response when your phone falls in the water. You will probably feel panic, you wanted to rid your phone of water and start tapping the buttons or blowing it with a dryer. But sorry to break the news, it won’t help at all.
Remember This!
Things that you shouldn’t do if your phone fell into the water:
- Don’t try to turn it on to see if it’s working.
- Don’t press any buttons.
- Don’t plug in or try to charge, it may cause electric shock.
- Don’t shake or tap the smart-phone.
- Don’t put the wet phone in the freezer.
- Don’t use a hairdryer on it, it can lead to further damage.
Methods You Can Try Out:
First thing first, once you dropped your phone in the water, you should pick it up ASAP and use a clean towel to wipe the exterior. Don’t apply too much pressure when you wipe the phone to minimize the phone’s water damage. Make sure you shut down the phone if it is still on. You are recommended to place the phone in a dry place. You can use the methods below to help you:
Silica gel packets
Look for the silica packets in a pill bottle or shoebox. They are able to absorb the moist inside the phone so it can recover and work perfectly. After you seal up your phone inside a pouch filled with silica gel packets, it will require 24 to 48 hours for your phone to dry out. This means that you can’t use your smartphone during this period. You can either use your backup devices to stay connected with family and friends. Most importantly, don’t use any heat source like a hairdryer to make the water evaporate.
Detach any accessories that may be on your phone.
You should remove the battery immediately to cut the power and remove the other parts as fast as you can. Once your phone is wet you may lose all your important contacts or other onboard information. So you must remove the SIM card and SD card after making sure that the water didn’t affect the SIM card. If the SIM card is affected, you have to send it to the mobile store to fix it. Leave your phone at a dry place to evaporate the water content inside the phone.
